Photogrammetric Virtual Reality

What is Photogrammetric Virtual Reality?

Photogrammetric Virtual Reality is from the 3D scene in which you can take some series of photographs that combine with specialized software to make it more realistic to find the exact position and the surface points. The technology also enables the specialized software for producing precise 3D models just like real subjects for the various simulations scientifically or by archiving the things.

The primary objective of the photogrammetric is to capture the position of every point at least with two cameras at various angles. The result of the effect will be calculated using some specialized software. When comparing to 3D scanning, Photogrammetric Virtual Reality can grab the data in one shot and makes the scanning more convenient with just a simple studio setup.

Photogrammetric Virtual Reality refers to a computer modeling of virtual reality calculated from data captured by photographs.

Photographing Virtual Reality is created by taking stereo photographs and then feeding the raw images into 3D modeling software. A CNC machine cuts out scene-specific props such as trees, buildings, or furniture to create an immersive environment for people who wear VR headsets. And while most systems require several days and pricey equipment, the latest technique only requires a single camera and a computer with photorealistic rendering capability to generate highly realistic models in seconds.

It is a computer-generated virtual reality environment that extrapolates from the data obtained from photographs taken via multiple views of a scene.

What Is Photogrammetric Virtual Reality?

There are several techniques to create this type of photogrammetric VR, but they are generally all based on one kind or another of 3D reconstruction technique. One way to create accurate 3D models and textures is by taking photographs shot from distinct locations within synchronicity along many different light sources (flashlights). The camera captures a small point cloud surrounding these points, then mapped onto the image plane sequentially as adjacent points with distinctive shapes.

It helps when I’m trying to describe something like this because it’s kind of esoteric.

A Photogrammetric Environment can be generated by techniques such as photogrammetry. This type of environment may include any number of objects rendered to create a realistic-looking scene. Each thing in the environment must interact with each other somehow, often by simply passing through them as part of the intended interaction within the Environment.

The word combines two Greek words, “Pithe,” meaning animal, and “graphein,” meaning to write. To put it simply, “Photography” is about taking pictures, but instead, what we do here at Photogrammetric are laser scans that produce 3D models which, for whatever reason, don’t have an image attached.

Photogrammetry is a process used to construct precise measurements from photographs, and virtual reality is a technology that uses computer graphics to simulate an experience of being in another place. The combination of these technologies allows you to travel between any two points on Earth in virtual reality, with the help of satellite imagery?

These same techniques can be used for archaeological reconstructions. For example, we can use photogrammetry to create accurate 3D models or maps from photos taken at different angles and overlay them onto aerial/satellite imagery. Essential features and geographic areas can then be highlighted on top of those images.

You can find a 360-degree photogrammetric virtual reality model of an archaeological site for sale by companies like CyArk. For example, you can purchase it to view in your google cardboard or Gear VR.

Different types of Photogrammetric Virtual Reality

Photogrammetry is divided into close and aerial range. Many new mappings are created by using the aerial photogrammetry in which the camera is mounted in an aircraft pointing towards vertical.

This type of data is utilized in the digital elevation type of model. When comes to close range,Photogrammetric Virtual Reality used in the tripod mounted cameras for measuring the complex architecture, structures, etc.

Working of Photogrammetric Virtual Reality

Different angles are used in the photogrammetry that is similar to the mathematical analysis which performs for the reconstruction of the real-life objects as well as the structures. Different angles in a sense like the nonspecular and opaque type of surfaces where they can’t be mapped using the method.

The stitching process will work for the panoramic photographs for various images. Once they are combined, it results in the form of the point cloud which used for the composing of millions of textures with high resolution. It also applied to the previously generated mesh. The scenes can render from the 3D engine. They can be enhanced with the Dynamic lighting, audio effects or other moving objects.

There are many software’s that used in processing that stands alone for the solutions for the cloud-based platforms which tend to reduce the hardware requirements.

Photogrammetry HTC Vive

The HTC Vive had released the second developer kit that displays a wider range of details comparing to the standard screens. But they are restricted to the hardware limitations. The full body and finger tracking have some technical constraints that make it more difficult.

They are working on the full body tracking in VR which is combined with the steam VR controllers along with head tracking and hence, it will unlock the single and multiplayer VR experience. The new kit will function better through wireless interference and the communication between the headsets and foot sensors. The video camera creates a great model though the photogrammetry requires some intensive calculations and to create a better scene.

Photogrammetry Setup, Equipment

It is an art of science in which it is used in the overlapping photography for the reconstruction of 3D scenes and objects. To setup the Photogrammetry, you need to create the successful 3D models for the cameras having high end digital single lens cameras.

Make sure your camera has a better resolution to get the best quality photographs. Fix the focal length. If you have variable focus length type lens, then make sure you go for a specific length like minimum and maximum.

Avoid the zoom functionality during the photography session. Experiment using the fisheye and macro lenses for the photogrammetry. Many photogrammetry software packages advise fisheye and other wide angled lenses.

Some option equipment is also required for the better photography. Properly setup without bumping or windblown and you need to eliminate the blurriness in photos.

Photogrammetry turntables

The turntable is a handy one that helps you in lifting a subject that strict control the lighting as well as don’t have the sufficient space around the object to get the 360-degree photos.

So the setting up of the turntable permits you to arrange the tripod and lights in a static location.

A variety of turntable works but based on size and subject to be taken. Some of the turntables are equipped with a certain degree of marks around the edges and have some automatic features. If used, in such a way that leaves the turntable on the continuous rotation which is not at all recommended.

Photogrammetry Agisoft

The photogrammetry Agisoft is processing software. It developed by the Agisoft LLP. The photos can is fast and easy to use. The software just cost around 174$ and the standard version also not that cheap, but when compared to the laser scanner, it is very affordable to buy.

If you are expecting the best thing out of this software then you need good RAM to handle the things otherwise you will face some long loading times and crashes. The programs have similar requirements for the input compared with the output. You can reprocess your photographs and even use the old images that don’t mean for photogrammetric.

Some of the best tips you can follow while setup and using the software is to keep your pictures more clear and precise. Peep into the pixel and find out the things with ease. Everything will be in the picture and perfectly make the things plays a role here, and the software will assist on the go to other things much better than anything else.

Photogrammetric lighting

Lighting is one of the key points in the photogrammetric image. Good lighting conditions impact your photogrammetric model. The lighting around you will be reflected in your 3D object while taking the photographers, so it is better to make the images on a cloudy day, and fighting the lighting issue is a bit complicated. So, follow the best by adjusting the lighting source because we might have cloudy days always when you need your shoot right. Try minimizing the contrast between highlight and shadow regions and get the best output.

Finally, the photogrammetric VR is the future of Virtual reality, and we can expect more developments in the visualization of videos and images.
